An alphanumeric sender ID replaces a shared number with your business name on every message a recipient receives. In Tanzania, alphanumeric sender IDs are registered with the telecommunications regulator, and a bulk SMS provider submits that registration on your behalf.

The steps

  1. Create an account with a bulk SMS provider that offers sender ID registration.
  2. Submit the name you want recipients to see, along with any supporting information the request flow asks for.
  3. Wait for the regulator's review. Approval timing depends on the regulator, not the platform, so no provider can promise an exact turnaround.
  4. Once approved, the sender ID is available immediately for both portal and API sending.

What to expect

Not every requested name is guaranteed approval -- the regulator reviews each submission on its own terms. A provider that promises instant or guaranteed approval is describing something outside its control.
